  • The applicant, their partner or both together must own total net businesses and personal assets of at least AUD $1,250,000
  • Suitable for applicants that have been successful in managing a business for at least two years.
Overview of the Significant Investor Stream

To qualify for the Significant Investor Stream, applicants must fulfil the following criteria

  • Make a complying investment of AUD $5 million.
  • Have a genuine intention to hold their investment for over 4 years.
  • The Significant Investor Stream does not have an age limit and there are no minimum points requirements to secure the visa. The eligibility criteria is as follows

  • The Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (188 Visa) is a program designed for businesspeople and investors looking to expand their ventures into Australia. It also provides temporary and permanent residence (PR) pathways to people possessing unique business talents, or individuals who invest a certain amount of funds in Australia. It is a highly sought-after visa for high-net-worth individuals and is strictly available to applicants who have been nominated by an Australian state or territory government. The basic requirements are:

  • The applicant must score a minimium of 65 points on the points test.
  • The applicant must be nominated by an Australian State / Territory Government before applying for the visa.
  • The applicant must be under 55 years of age; there are some exemptions to this criteria.
  • Must pass the medical and character requirements for the visa.
  • The applicant must have history of managing a successful business.

The Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (188 Visa) is divided into 3 main streams, catering to the different visa needs and requirements of applicants. 
The general criteria for each stream include:

1. Business Innovation Stream
  • The Business Innovation Stream is designed for people who wish to own or manage either a new or existing business in Australia.     Make a complying investment of AUD $5 million Have a genuine intention to hold their investment for over 4 years in approved proportions: 
    1. At least AUD $1 million in venture capital growth and private equity funds that invest in start-ups and smaller private businesses
    2. At least AUD $1.5 million in approved managed funds that invest in emerging companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange
    3. A balancing investment of at least AUD $2.5 million in managed funds
  • The Significant Investor Stream does provide exemptions to Age, Points, English and residency requirements.

YourVisa 186 application includes the results of your English language proficiency test. However, the results cannot be older than 3 years from the date you submit your visa application.

Transition from Temporary Visa (188A Visa) to Permanent Residency (888 Visa)

  • After the visa holder has held a subclass 188 visa, the applicant can apply for a subclass 888 visa to obtain permanent resiedncy in Australia.
  • The visa holder must satisfy a number of conditions before they can apply for a permanent visa under sublcass 888.
  • The visa holder must have been a resident of Australia for at least 12 months within 2 years before lodgement and owned an operated a business in Australia for at least 2 years with a turnover of at least $300,000 for 2 of the last four years. In addition, the visa holder must satisfy two out of three requirements
    1. Have employed at least 2 full time Australian employees within the business;
    2. Have a net personal and business asst of $600,000 and or
    3. Net business assets of $200.000 for 12 months before the application is made.

The visa applicant must also be involved in the day to day management of the business to qualify for the 888 visa. It is important to know that the visa applicant must be involved at a senior level and make decisions that affect the performance of the business. Ideally, the visa applicant has been involved in financial aspects, marketing, requirement and operational aspects of the business.
